A Chicago teenager and a security guard were shot at an institute, according to police

The shooting occurred at the end of the school day, around 3:30 p.m., at Wendell Phillips Academy High School, said Brian Deenihan, chief of Chicago police detectives, during a press conference .

The guard opened the school door and “immediately, there was a criminal in the street area who started firing in the direction of the security guard,” Deenihan said.

The guard was shot several times and the bullets went through an unopened door and hit the teenager, Deenihan said. She was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition on Tuesday.

The 45-year-old security guard was also taken to a hospital and was in good condition, police said.

Investigators do not know if the shot was aimed. There were no arrests, police added.

The shooting comes after dozens of people were shot in the city over the weekend.

Forty people were shot in 31 shots in Chicago over the holiday weekend, according to incident reports from the Chicago Police Department. Four victims died.

Overall, murders in Chicago increased 4% and shooting incidents increased 11% compared to last year, according to statistics released last week by the Chicago Police Department.
