In Genshin Impact, Ajax, now known as Tartaglia or Childe, is Fatui Harbinger with outstanding fighting skills.
Childe was not always the warrior he is today. Liyue’s story provided a much more detailed account of his background.
Thanks to Genshin Impact’s story pages, players can learn about Childe’s life before he became Harbinger.
Ajax story in Genshin Impact
As a child, 11. Fatui Harbinger did not have the names “Childe” and “Tartaglia” he has today. Ajax was named by his father after a heroic tale.
Ajax and his father would often go ice fishing together, cut ice in search of a fishing spot, and take care of their lines. In those moments of connecting with family, Ajax’s father often told stories of his past adventures. Ajax would take these stories to heart and imagine themselves living the same way.
At 14, Ajax left home with a short sword and a bag of bread. He wasn’t great at fighting at the time, but that was about to change.
Ajax got lost in a snowy forest and was chased by dangerous animals. As he fled, he slipped and fell into a crack in the ground. There Ajax found himself in a dark realm separate from the normal world.
The strange swordswoman in that empire was a mentor to Ajax for three months, turning him into a warrior. In the real world, only three days had passed, but he would return home with a fear of conflict and struggle.
Wherever Ajax went, violence followed. Eventually, his father handed him over to Fatuim, hoping that his military life would ease his temper. However, it did not turn out as planned.
Ajax’s ability to dispose of enemy troops while still a teenager caught the attention of the 5th Herald, Pulcinelle. Harbinger made Ajax an official member of Fatui, even though he had to work from the bottom.
Ajax defeated powerful enemies in the service of the Empress, and eventually became the youngest Harbinger in the history of Fatui. With his new title, he earned the nickname “Childe” Tartaglia.
At some point in Ajax’s service with Fatui, Cryo Archon Tsaritsa gave him his Misconception. Jester, the first Fatui in history, fastened an old badge to him as he swore allegiance to the archon.
Although one of the most powerful heralds, Tartaglia does not always see face to face with her peers. Fatui have a penchant for deception, while Childe is proud to keep his word. Also, as chaos continues to follow the 11th Herald, Fatui often sends him away from Snezhnaya to avoid disorderly consequences.
There are good reasons to doubt that Tartaglia will reappear in Genshin Impact story later. The Traveler will probably see him again as soon as they arrive in Scheznaya, which could be in a few years. Of course, since Childe is often active elsewhere according to Genshin Impact, players can see him at any time.
