Dieter Brummer, star of ‘Home and Away’, died at the age of 45




New South Wales police confirmed to CNN affiliate 9News that Brummer’s body was found in the Sydney suburb of Glenhaven on Saturday afternoon after officers responded to “reports of concern about wellness in a house on Glenhaven Road “.

His death is not being treated as a suspect, an NSW police spokesman added.

Brummer ‘s family said in a statement on Monday: “We lost our handsome, talented, funny, complicated and beloved Dieter on Saturday morning.

“He has left a huge hole in our lives and our world will never be the same. Our thoughts are on everyone who knew him, loved him or will work with him over the years.

Brummer became famous after joining the cast of “Home and Away” in 1992. His character, Shane, was also a fan favorite thanks to his love-interest romance Angel, played by Melissa George.

Brummer’s performance in the role earned him two awards for most popular actor at Logies, the Australian equivalent of the Emmys.

He left the long-running soap in 1996 when his character was drafted. He continued to appear on television shows such as “Shark Bay”, “Underbelly” and the rival soap “Neighbors”.

The Seven Network, which broadcasts “Home and Away” in Australia, said it was “deeply saddened” by the news of Brummer’s death.

“Dieter was a much-loved member of the in-house and out-of-home cast and celebrated by the Australian and international audience for his award-winning performance of Shane Parrish,” a spokesman said in a statement.

“We send our sincerest condolences to Dieter’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
