When Android 11 was released last year New features Attempt. Samsung has updated the device fairly well this time with the S20 and Note20 series receiving Android 11 by the end of 2020 and many other phones that offer this feature. Ahead of schedule. Although Samsung has added a lot of its own features, Google’s enhancements are still shining, and here are some of the features you really need to use.
Google Home Control
One of my favorite features in Android 11 is the Google Home panel built into the power menu, which gives you quick access to smart device controls. I always use this for lighting and Chromecast. You are not limited to the Home app. All developers You can take advantage of this system.
The implementation of these controls has changed for the One UI since Samsung infamously remapped the power button to Bixby. Swipe down the notification window, tap the device, then tap SmartThings. The drop-down box will list all compatible apps, including Google Home. Everything works the same as on the Pixel, except for repositioning.
It should be noted that this only debuted in One UI 3.1, which first arrived with the Galaxy S21. Thankfully, older Galaxy devices are already starting to receive this update.
Launched in Android 10, Notification Bubbles finally arrived in Android 11. Samsung’s pop-up view is more flexible in that it works with any app, but Bubbles is faster and more convenient for quick access to important notifications. Unfortunately, some apps still don’t support it.
In recent years, Google has prioritized tighter control over data, and in Android 11 it has extended to app permissions. Instead of a black and white allow or deny approach, you can now grant one-time access to locations and other permissions. If you have an app that you want to temporarily grant location access, but don’t want to keep doing it in the background, this is a welcome tool.
left: Notification settings, middle: Advanced settings, rights: Notification history
Too often I accidentally swiped the notification before I had a chance to read it. Android 11 adds a history button to the pulldown that shows all recent notifications even when recent notifications are turned off. While this feature is included in the One UI, it has become more difficult than expected for Samsung to access.
Slide down the notification window and click “Notification Settings”, “Advanced Settings”, then “Notification History”. Here you can find everything from the last 24 hours. It’s hidden like this, so it’s annoying, but it’s also useful if you missed something you want to see.
Media Control has had some design tweaks in recent years, but the new version found in Android 11 is the most important. It doesn’t exist as a notification and is now part of the quick setup instead. The downside to this is that you lose a single line of toggle, but it looks better and offers some useful new features. If more than one app has media playback, separate notifications allow you to paginate and swipe controls without taking up unnecessary space.
Android 11 has improved the user experience a lot, and these are just a few of the new features to explore. Samsung’s unique features make this experience Much more, So they have to play with them too.
