The central defender of England had a terrible time at the club level this season. In their last game against Watford, Maguire was sent off for a stupid second yellow card. Manchester United eventually lost the game 4-1, which is why manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired the next day.
Ferdinand claims that the defender should take a break and get out of the line of fire. On his YouTube channel, FIVE, the former Manchester United defender said:
“Harry wouldn’t like to hear this, but I just think you need to get out of the line of fire sometimes. He had a long summer, a successful summer in England to some extent. He played a lot of football, he is returning to United and physically and mentally it looks like there is a hangover. “
Ferdinand pointed out that Harry Maguire’s performances were not at the level expected lately. He said:
“He won’t get out of it, neither would I, I would try to go through it myself, but at this point his performance was not at the level needed for him, for Man United. The bar he set himself would not exist. “
He further added:
“I saw Gary Neville talk the other day about having a nightmare after three or four summers on the jump playing football for England and Man United and needing a break. I think Harry Maguire is at that point right now. ”
Harry Maguire’s turbulent season at Manchester United continues
A red card against Watford on Saturday was not the only time Maguire has disappointed Manchester United this season. The captain of the club has maintained great form since the beginning of the season.
It all really went downhill with a 4-2 defeat Leicester City. Maguire was probably responsible for three of the four goals Manchester United conceded.
In addition, he had bad games against Atalanta, Liverpool and Manchester City, and the list goes on.
Maguire has been fiercely criticized by fans and experts. After a great period with England during the international break, he was expected to turn the season around. However, the reality was far from it.
Solskjaer has now been sacked and Michael Carrick will lead Manchester United in the next few games. That’s until the club’s management finds a manager.
