How long has Roman Reigns been the WWE Universal Champion?

Roman rule is in the middle of his second reign of the Universal Championship and the fifth reign of the world title in total. Interestingly, his current reign of the Universal Championship is not only the longest in his career, but also longer than his previous four reigns of the world title combined.

Before winning the Universal Championship at Payback 2020, his combined term at the World Cup was just 182 days. Since writing on July 5, 2021, Reigns has been the universal champion for 309 days.

There is no doubt as to which title title was best for Roman Reigns. Between November 2015 and June 2016, he held the WWE Championship on three occasions, all of which were short-lived. Although his third WWE reign was supposed to be long, a breach of wellness policy meant the company had to take his title off and suspend him for a month.

Things are different in 2021. When Roman rule returned in 2020, it was after a break of over five months. It was the longest he hadn’t been on WWE TV and he needed a break. Reigns would finally turn around and win the Universal Championship a week after he returned.

It turned out to be the best decision, as he is currently enjoying the best streak in his entire WWE career.

Who could take Roman rule off the universal champion?

Although SmackDown’s move to FOX has established itself as WWE’s new “A-show,” the presence of Roman Reigns and its rise is a catalyst in making the blue brand big big.

Now the character is what everyone wanted him to be – the dominant champion in the fifth. Some of his opponents in the title are Jey Uso, Kevin Owens,, Edge, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro and Rey Mysterio, among others. There seems to be no one who could dethrone Roman Reigns – giving way to a potentially longer run as Universal Champion.

As a universal champion, Reigns usually opens the pay-per-view and in most cases gives it to the headlines. The Royal Rumble 2021 was one of the few exceptions to this rule.

It will be interesting to see who eventually dethroned Roman rule. He is talked about in the future by high-profile matches, including a potential SummerSlam clash against John Cena and a future WrestleMania match against The Rock.
