Despite the slender form of KL Rahula in T20Is, Virat Kohli he called him a ‘champion player’ and supported him to play next to him in the highest order Rohit Sharma in the rest of the T20I series against England.
Despite India’s defeat in the third T20I in Ahmedabad, the Indian captain cited his example and supported KL Rahul to deliver the goods. Mark Wood cleaned up Mark Wood for the duck on Tuesday. This marked the third time in his last four T20I changes that KL Rahul had failed to open his account.
However, in a post-match presentation, Virat Kohli called KL Rahula ‘one of the best hitters’ in the T20I, saying:
“I went through a skinny patch two days ago. He (KL Rahul) is a champion player and he will continue to be one of our main hitters along with Rohit Sharma. Prior to this (slim patch), if you see the numbers, it was one of the best T20I hitters in the world. T20 is an instinctive game and it is only five or six balls, and once a few shots are revealed … ”
KL Rahul finished 2020 as the second highest runner in the T20I. He scored 404 runs averaging 44.88 and an impact rate of 140.8 and won the Orange Cap in the IPL 2020 after scoring 670 runs at 55.83. Rank no. 3 on the ICC T20I hitter scale, KL Rahul is also the best ranked Indian hitter in this format.
I don’t want to play shots that don’t help the team: Virat Kohli
After a skinny stain, Virat Kohli found form, achieving successive half-centuries. His 49-ball 73 on Sunday helped India equalize the series. On Tuesday, however, he played a lone hand, scoring an unbeaten 46-ball 77, leading India to a respectable 156. However, thanks to the prowess of Jos Buttler, that overall result proved inadequate.
Asked if he had patted himself on the back after his incredible inning, Virat Kohli dismissed his personal milestone, saying he didn’t care about punches that didn’t help his side win. Virat Kohli said in this regard:
“If that (my inning) helps the team, then for sure (I’m happy with my inning). You don’t want to play shots that don’t help the team in any way. ”
While England will lead 2-1 in the series, the two sides will block the horns in the fourth T20I on Thursday.
