Eugene Hart, 64, was sentenced to two life terms and sentenced to death for shooting 24-year-old Mark Kelley and his sister 20-year-old Kara Kelley Voss. Another Leo Jenkins was convicted and convicted.
Mr Kelley was the married father of two children. Vossius had married for less than a year. Siblings were working at their family’s security shop in North Houston after they were shot and were killed in a robbery 33 years ago.
“At the time, they were just my best friends,” the victims’ sister, Robin Kelley, told ABC13. “That hole in your heart never goes away, and you just live with it.”
Jenkins was executed in 1996, and the Kelleys family were the first victims ever to witness the death penalty in Texas.
“There was one little bad guy living on the ground,” Robin Kelley said. Now, Hart is threatened with freedom. “I just fear politics.”
In an email, Timothy McDonnell, chief of staff at the Texas Board of Pardons and Parols, said Hart was approved for the trust in September 2014, participating in “special promises.”
Hart had served only 26 years, but was sentenced to eight years in prison for aggravated assault, making his release this month, he said.
For Robin Kelley, it’s not enough.
“Now I want in a way that when you kill someone you love, it’s your life,” he said.
Wildlife is under the Super-Tensive Supervision Program, with the highest level of supervision, McDonnell said. Even when released is not permitted in Harris County.
Most recently, she was in the Estelle Unit in Huntsville. The Harris County attorney does not have a record in the archive for Hart.
