Manchester United wanted Premier League superstar before signing Cristiano Ronaldo: Reports

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wanted to sign Harry Kane in the summer before heading out for Cristiano Ronaldo. According to a report in Norway, the Red Devils were unwilling to match Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price for Kane.

According to a report in Dagbladet, Manchester United told Solskjaer to sign Harry Kane. However, the management of the Red Devils decided not to enter the war of competition with Manchester City, which was also interested in the English striker. Manchester United felt that the asking price set by Tottenham was too high, which is why they cut short their interest.

The report also claims that Kane was open to moving to Old Trafford because he wanted to leave Tottenham. His first preference was Manchester City, but when they decided not to bid for the striker, Kane shifted his focus to the Red Devils.

Manchester City, meanwhile, turned their attention to Cristiano Ronaldo after deciding not to chase Kane. But the influence of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ronaldo’s former team-mates led to Manchester United making an offer for the Portuguese.

Ronaldo eventually signed a two-year contract for Manchester United with the option to extend for another year. The Portuguese has scored six goals in nine appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions this season.

Manchester United are targeting Harry Kane, who remains at Tottenham

After months of planning to move to Manchester City, Harry Kane was forced to make a turnaround and stay at Tottenham. The English striker initially believed there was an agreement for him to leave, but the Spurs were firm and decided not to sell their star.

Harry Kane wrote a message to Tottenham fans after he decided to stay at the club for another season, thanking them for their incredible support.

“It was amazing to see a reception from Spurs fans and read some of the messages of support I’ve received in the last few weeks. I’m going to stay at Tottenham this summer and be 100 percent focused on helping the team achieve success.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly looking for a new striker, and Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are heading towards the end of their careers.

The Red Devils are linked to the moves of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
