TL;DR

  • The specs of Mediatek’s upcoming flagship SoC appear to have leaked.
  • The so-called Dimensity 2000 will obviously be the first to use the Cortex-X core.
  • It will also feature Arm’s latest GPUs.

Mediatek’s Dimensity chipsets have traditionally performed well in the midrange and budget segments, but they haven’t been able to lead Qualcomm as the vendor of choice in the flagship space. The company previously said it intends to take a step forward in the high-end space, and a new leak suggests that next year’s flagship silicon could be a notable product.

Frequently visited Weibo information provider digital chat station Leaked specs that appear to be the next flagship Dimensity chipset, named Dimensity 2000 in a previous leak. In terms of actual specifications, the new chipset is expected to feature a 4nm TSMC design and a tri-cluster octa-core CPU.

CPU layout consists of one heavy task. Cortex-X2 Cores at 3Ghz, 3 Cortex-A710 cores for medium operation and 4 Cortex-A510 cores for power-hungry operations. This is the first time Mediatek has adopted a Cortex X CPU because it skipped the Cortex-X1. Dimension 1200 chipset. So it should be on par with the Snapdragon 888 successor and Exynos 2100 in the CPU arena.

Meanwhile, the Weibo leaker claims that the new processor will offer: Ammali-G710 MC10 GPU. This is Arm’s newest and best smartphone GPU, where the Mali-G78 took over where it left off. Arm previously stated that the Mali-G710 delivers 20% more performance and efficiency than the Mali-G78, as well as a 35% improvement in machine learning capabilities.

This graphic silicone Dimension 1200, using the old Mali-G77 MP9 GPU. However, since the Samsung chip offered the Mali-G78 MP14 GPU, it would be on par with the Exynos 2100 (assuming the same specs).

But there’s more to smartphone processors than CPUs and GPUs, so I’d definitely like to see what Mediatek has in terms of camera capabilities, multimedia capabilities, modem support, and machine learning. The company expects to unveil the Dimensity 2000 SoC in Q4 2021, so we’ll know more in the coming months.
