NEW YORK / LOS ANGELES – The Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) is announcing its 70th anniversary celebration, which includes the launch of the VOICES OF COURAGE digital tapestry, commemorative logo and social media campaign featuring #VoicesOfCourage and # 70YearsOfCourage. WWE sponsors the event.

Since its inception in 1951, AWM, originally known as American Women on Radio and Television (AWRT), has been committed to inspiring, educating, celebrating the achievements and expanding networks of women across all segments of the media. AWM is the collection of all women’s voices in the media, and the leaders of the organization know that each voice is not only individual, but also rich in its individual context. To share these stories in an even more personal and meaningful way, AWM has developed a new website called Voices. AWM management encourages media professionals to join the celebration by contributing to the tapestry. To view the VOICES OF COURAGE tapestry and add someone who inspires you, visit Celebrateawm.org

“The Women’s Media Alliance was founded by brave women 70 years ago and has been led by brave women (and men) ever since. It is fitting that we celebrate 70 years of courage in tandem with recognizing the unprecedented determination and courage shown by front-line journalists over the past year at the 46th annual Gracie Awards, ”said Becky Brooks, President of AWM / F.“ This is an important year in the history of our organization, and we are determined to support and promote women in the media for the next 70 years. “

In 1960, the Alliance for Women in the Media formed an educational foundation – the first of its kind to be set up by any professional broadcasting organization – and in 1975 the Foundation launched an annual awards program celebrating outstanding content created by women for and about women. In 1997, those awards were Gracie, named after Gracie Allen, the media pioneer who embodied the award’s character. Learn more about the Gracie Awards on the website allwomeninmedia.org/gracies

The 70th anniversary was sponsored by WWE, Crown Media Family Networks, CNN, Ford Motor Company Fund, Katz Media Group, NCTA – The Internet and Television Association and Ziploc.
