Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff Defended by (D-Calif.) Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) In the midst of efforts to remove him from the House Minority Leader panel Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

In a statement Thursday, Schiff called Swalwell a “trusted member” of the committee and said he “was given a counterintelligence briefing in 2015 and acted fully in accordance with his responsibilities.”

Schiff said an FBI official familiar with the investigation into Swalwell’s past relationship with an alleged Chinese spy said he was “fully cooperative and not suspicious of wrongdoing.”

He describes Swalwell as an “hardworking and industrious member.”

Schiff continued, “Mr. Swalwell will continue to make great contributions to our national security. It is disturbing that Kevin McCarthy is attempting to disarm classified counterintelligence briefings as a political one, and use them to smear a House colleague in the process. Members face real counterintelligence dangers from sophisticated artists, and bad faith political attacks on Members will only make it harder to respond. “

McCarthy’s resolution arguing Swalwell “did not deny public reporting that a suspected Chinese intelligence operative helped raise money for Representative Swalwell’s political campaigns and expedited the potential appointment of interns to Representative Swalwell’s offices. . ”

Swalwell hacked McCarthy on Twitter again. He wrote, “Recognize New McCarthyism. Multiple sentences in the resolution state that ‘Swalwell was not denied …’ But failed to include the FBI’s many statements that ‘nothing was wrong’ and did nothing but ‘cooperate. ‘ All this to deviate from [McCarthy’s] support for QAnon. ”

This is not the first time Schiff has criticized McCarthy. During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” last month, Schiff said, “Kevin McCarthy represents nothing but the continuation of his own position. He has no value, and in my view, cares nothing but the hope of being a speaker someday.”

He also fired McCarthy on a visit to the former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida in January, as IJR was previously reported.

“That picture that you showed Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trump … What Kevin McCarthy says in that picture is, ‘I have no stand, I don’t care about anything, I accept my own personal ambition,'” he said. Ship.

He continued, “‘And if I had to embrace someone who was just inciting an uprising against the Capitol that resulted in so many deaths, I would do it.'”
