The Argentine superstar posted on Instagram photos of himself wearing a Barcelona shirt with the caption: “With the same commitment and passion as always, now Barça. Long live Barcelona”.
“It’s an immense joy because since I was a child, and even more so now with Messi, I thought Barça was the best club in the world,” Aguero said in a statement released by the club on Monday.
“Any player who has the opportunity to play for Barça will come running. I will try my best to help the club win great things.”
“We welcomed you with a tango, a very exciting dance, just like you, because we know it will score a lot of goals for Barça,” Laporta said in the statement.
Aguero joined Atletico Madrid City in 2011 and won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and six League Cups.
The Argentine is City’s all-time leading scorer with 260 goals in 390 appearances, but has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. Last season he made just 12 appearances in the Premier League, scoring four goals.
Aguero was unable to help his team win the coveted Champions League, but played more than 20 minutes in his team’s 0-1 defeat to Chelsea in Saturday’s final.
Barcelona also announced the free signing of Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, who has signed a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season. The club set the player’s purchase clause at a whopping 400 million euros ($ 489 million).
“The player has to literally‘ buy ’his contract for the stipulated amount, although in practice it is the buying club who pays the amount through the player,” according to Geey.
Garcia, 20, was part of Barcelona’s famous academy from 2008 to 2017, when he joined Manchester City.
The Spaniard, who has been included in the squad for Euro 2020 in his country along with new teammates Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Pedri, he made just 12 appearances at City last season.
