The best moveset for Lugia in Pokemon Gold and Silver

The premier legendary Pokemon from Pokemon Silver, Lugia, is a phenomenal powerhouse with diverse movement.

Lugia is a miracle to watch, not only in the game but also in Pokemon: Movie 2000. Although some Pokemon may be fast and others bulky, Lugia is both. It has 110 base speeds and an incredible 154 base special defenses. Also, since he has a base of 90 in both offensive statistics, Lugia can perform a combination of special and physical attacks. This is a move that Lugia can use to stop any Pokemon she is facing.

By accessing these strong attacks there is no reason not to simply throw them at Lugia. These are not only a combination of physical and special attacks, but also cover for many different types in the game.

  • Aeroblast
  • Psychic
  • Waterfall
  • Shadow Ball

Aeroblast, Lugia’s recognizable move, is easily the best flying type move in the game. You can’t compete too much with 100 base power and 95 precision. This move also has an increased critical hit ratio, which makes it easier to remove opposing Pokemon. This is also necessary because Lugia is not receiving any other good flying type moves other than HM for Fly.

The psyche should not ask for much explanation, because it is such a good move of the psychic type. Lugia naturally learns Future Sight, which is a very powerful move, but only hits after two turns. This is not reliable enough to carry a player during the game.

While this is a move Lugia should definitely have, Pokemon Silver players will have to wait until they arrive in Saffron City in Kant to find a technical machine for this move. This unfortunately means that Lugia will not have a strong psychic type move during the Elite Four race after Johta. At Pokemon Gold this is not a problem as Lugia is only available after purchasing the Silver Wing in Pewter City.

The waterfall is certainly not the most powerful move of the Water type that Lugia approaches, but it is more useful outside of battle. Given the fact that Pokemon Silver players gain access to Lugia after defeating Team Rocket at Goldenrod Radio Tower, it would be close to a waterfall for them to travel through Tohjo Falls. Suppose they already have water-type Pokemon who know Surfing and Whirlpool. It may be hard to make room for Waterfall unless that trainer is wrong with three moves of Water on one Pokemon. That’s why teaching Waterfalls makes sense. Of course, however, any trainer can use the Surf or Hydro pump in this slot in favor of Waterfall.

Shadow Ball is a great move for Lugia as it will become a great check A psychic-type Pokemon. Lugia is already checking for psychic-type moves. The ability to respond to psychic-type Pokemon is very useful in Pokemon gold and silver, because it will help the coaches to win Elite Four member of Will, as well as Sabrina, who has one of the toughest gyms to defeat.
