Manchester United boss Ole Gunar Solskjaer supported the skipper of the Red Devils Harry Maguire. Solskjaer believes Maguire is extremely important to the club and has defended the Englishman from harsh criticism from experts.
The English central defender was hit by fierce reactions after numerous bad performances. Manchester United have scored 21 goals in Maguire’s 13 matches this season. That includes embarrassing defeats from Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City.
Maguire looked much better for England during the recently concluded international break, scoring twice and keeping two clean sheets for the Three Lions. However, he continued to receive criticism from Roy Keane. Keane called Maguire’s celebration after the goal against Albania “shameful” and said that the defender has been a “shame” for the Red Devils lately.
Solskjaer has now defended Maguire and stressed the importance of the English for this Manchester United team. Speaking at a press conference, the Norwegian said (according to cit Metro):
“Harry is a top professional who wants to be with the coach every time and trains very well and I think going this week and scoring a few goals for his country will help his form and confidence.”
Solskjaer was also asked if he would take away Maguire’s captaincy at the club, to which he replied in the negative.
“For me, no, I haven’t thought about taking away his captain’s armband. He’s been absolutely determined for us on and off the field since he came in,” the Manchester United boss said.
The manager of Manchester United also did not pay attention to the words of the critics and praised Maguire.
“So-called experts have their opinions and it is their job to express their opinions which we don’t have to worry too much about. As a true example of a Man United player, Harry is always there for his team and his country,” Solskjaer added.
Manchester United will need Harry Maguire at full steam before a tough run
