Si Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) Is fighting against Republican lawmakers in his state for advocating for voting restrictions called the push “Jim Crow in new clothes.”

“Some politicians disapproved of the choice made by the majority of voters in a enthusiastic election where each side had a chance to give the case to the voters,” Warnock said in his speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday. .

He added, “Instead of adjusting their agenda, instead of changing their message, they are busy trying to change the rules. We are now witnessing a massive and unrelenting attack on the rights to voting unlike anything we’ve seen since the time of Jim Crow. It’s Jim Crow with new clothes. ”

Warncok accused politicians in Georgia and others of launching an “absolute attack on voting rights.”

He added, “They are committed to winning at any cost – even the cost of democracy itself. I submit that it is the duty of every citizen to stand up for the voting rights of every citizen, and it is the duty of this body to do the all to defend the viability of our democracy. ”

Last week, Georgia’s Republican -controlled state Senate passed a piece of law restricts mailing voting to primary elderly residents and to those with disabilities or out of town on Election Day.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law reports lawmakers introduced 253 bills with provisions restricting access to voting in 43 states.

In his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month, Trump suggested that Election Day should be the only day for voting, such as IJR was previously reported.

“There must be a legitimate reason for someone to vote absentee,” he said.

Trump also advocated the elimination of mailing voting, which requires identification from voters when they vote in person, and universal signature matching for anyone who votes on the no vote.
