The White House coordinator for the southern border, Roberta Jacobson, the President said Joe Biden’s immigration policy is a “more humane system,” but it doesn’t mean “open borders.”
CNN’s “New Day” host John Berman said Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said migrants see Biden as a “migrant president.”
Jacobson replied, “I think what President López Obrador is showing is the fact that President Biden came into office with a more humane message, with a message that we should enforce our laws but also have a humane system of transition. . “
He continued, “I think what he means is we’re going to treat people fairly. We’re going to try to reform our immigration system and so while I understand what he’s saying, I don’t think this is the way we can put it. “It’s a more human system but it’s not open borders.”

Berman said Jacobson discussed the “message manipulation” that occurs with smugglers to families and children going to the United States.
Rep. Said. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) that he spoke to migrants who say they heard from their friends and neighbors coming to the border instead of Biden.
“It has to be a strong message because, with all due respect, the administration’s message is not coming,” Cuellar said.
He asked Jacobson why Biden’s message didn’t reach migrants.
The White House official explained, “I think you have to understand that smugglers are fast and quick and quick-witted and they’re taking advantage of people’s hope and despair.”
Jacobson added, “The smuggler’s message is very pervasive. They get people and they catch their hope and they tell them things that aren’t true.”
The Biden administration faces a growing challenge as the number of unaccompanied minors arriving at the southern border has risen.
According to CNN, more than 4,000 children were stranded in facilities operated by the Border Patrol that were “similar to prison -like conditions.”
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was pressed on what the administration plans to do to control the situation.

Mayorkas explained that the United States is “expelling families” in the midst of the pandemic under the authority of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as single adults.
“What we are doing is addressing children who come to the border to claim under the humanitarian laws established by our country years and years ago,” Mayorkas said.
He added, “And we’re building the ability to address the needs of those kids when they arrive but we’re also sending and critical an important message that now is not the time to get to the border.”
