What is the new world height and depth in Minecraft after 1.18 update?

Minecraft has officially released update 1.18 Caves & Cliffs at full capacity for all platforms. The update brings significant changes in the world generation, ie caves and mountains, as the title of the update suggests. There are no new mobsters or new blocks, but there are new biomes and distinctly different caves and mountains.

The biggest changes are literally big: bigger mountains and bigger caves. World borders have changed. Y level 0 (or 2 or 4) is no longer the level for the base rock, and the height of the mountain has also changed significantly. Here’s what the numbers look like now.

The Minecraft 1.18 update introduces a new construction limit and cave depth

The previous build limit for Minecraft World was 256. Now, that’s nowhere near the limit. Thanks to update 1.18, the mountains themselves can spawn up to level 256, so the construction limit is much higher.

The new construction limit is Y level 320, so players can build nearly 70 blocks above the highest mountain.

You may think that the development of Minecraft numbs your excitement for research, but nothing could be further from the truth! In case you missed it: check out the endless glow of Caves & Cliffs: Part II in our latest developer diary: ↣

Earlier, the lowest player who could go to Minecraft the world was level 0. Bedrock began to appear at level 6, but it was possible to reach 0. Now the caves will go much lower than ever before.

Caves can be lower than Y levels -64. The new cave generation is a whole piece lower than ever before.

In addition, there is a new cave and mountain biomeincluding:

  • Meadow
  • Grove
  • Snowy Slopes
  • Jagged Peaks
  • Frozen Peaks
  • Stony Peaks
  • Cheese caves
  • Spaghetti Caves
  • Noodle Caves

The update is now officially live. Mobile players can visit the update section on their mobile device to download and install the update. Xbox and PlayStation gamers can visit their library and select a game to begin downloading. Nintendo Switch gamers can launch the app and it will start installing.

The update it shouldn’t take too long and players can start digging deeper and climbing more than ever before.
