Some things just aren’t meant to be together. Union between Nuno Espirito Santo i Tottenham Hotspur he always wanted to mark such a box.

The Portuguese coach replaced his compatriot Jose Mourinho, who was fired in April 2021, in June. Santo signed a two-year contract that would keep him in north London until the summer of 2023.

However, he could not last more than six months at Tottenham. Ten games in premier league season and poor results, Nuno Espirito Santo showed the door.

The final drop that spilled over the spine was last Saturday’s violent 3-0 home defeat Manchester United the side that was there to take. But interestingly, the dismissal of the 47-year-old is no surprise. In fact, it’s been coming for weeks.

Nuno Espirito Santo was never an upgrade of Jose Mourinho

Espirito Santo is a decent coach, and has done a wonderful job at Wolverhampton Wanderers. But if you’re going to replace a manager like Mourinho, the one to come should be an upgrade to The Special One.

Espirito Santo has never been an upgrade of the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss. If nothing else, Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy should have looked at Manchester United. The Red Devils have yet to win any trophies after they replaced Mourinho with a managerial novice like Ole Gunnar Solakjaer.

Espirito Santo got off to a great start after leading Tottenham to three consecutive Premier League victories. But work will always overwhelm him. And when it became difficult, he was found to have not enough.

The 47-year-old is, at best, a manager in the middle of the table, so it was excessive to expect that he would turn a disorganized Tottenham team into a candidate for the title. Each of his decisions led to Tottenham gravitating towards disaster. His management of the game was poor, and his replacements were equally drastic and uninspiring.

There is also a small detail that he was not Tottenham’s first choice. They almost signed with Antonio Conte, and when the deal fell through, they switched to Paul Fonseca. When the Spurs failed to catch him either, they opted for Santa.

✍️ We are pleased to announce the appointment of Antonio Conte as our head coach with a contract until the summer of 2023, with the possibility of extension.

Tottenham Hotspurs ’problems are deeper than the coach’s

Tottenham started to fall in the second half of last season, and they are currently doing worse.

The decision to block Harry Kane’s transfer to Manchester City in the summer obviously spoiled the attacker’s head. He has been a pale shadow of himself this season, with just one goal in nine Premier League games so far.

There are other Spurs players who have passed their peak. Such as Dele Alli and Harry Winks are called only because of their reputation, not because of their current form.

All of this points to the fact that Spurs ’problems are deeper than mere managerial incompetence. Espirito Santo was obviously the wrong choice, but several factors contributed to the disastrous lineup of the team.

“I know how much Nuno and his professional staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we had to make this decision,” Tottenham football general manager Fabio Paratici said after firing the Portuguese. CNN.

“Nuno is a real gentleman and will always be welcome here. We want to thank him and his professional staff and wish them luck in the future.”

Espirito Santo certainly had the right intentions, but he was always destined to fail. The arrival of Antonio Conte comes as a breath of fresh air.

Officially. Confirmed. Antonio Conte was appointed the new manager of Tottenham until June 2023. The agreement was signed and announced by Spurs. ⚪️🤝 #THFCHe is working with Fabio Paratici again after three years spent together at Juventus. https://t.co/oB6I9rSsVT

But if the Italian does not get full support in the overhaul of the team, he could end up like his predecessor.
