Barcelona join race for Serie A defender – Reports

Barcelona they’ve already made a few vital signatures this summer, but they don’t seem to be putting on the brakes anytime soon. The Blaugrana remains committed to adding more defensive strength to its ranks. This means that fans can expect more players to head to Camp Nou in the coming weeks.

According to reports, the Catalan giants have joined the race to sign the Atalanta defender Christian Romero. The Argentine impressed Serie A last season and appeared on the radar of many top clubs across the continent.

It is stated that Tottenham Hotspur they are currently running a race to sign the defender, who is said to have agreed terms with the EPL giants. The Spurs are determined to turn down Barca’s interest in luring Romero into the Premier League next season.

For some reason, Barcelona’s chances of sealing the transfer seem very slim. The decisive factor at the moment is the terrible economic situation in the club. All three contracts (excluding Emerson who was on loan at Betis) arrived as free agents because Blaugrana could not afford to spit out the money.

Atalanta say Romero is estimated at around £ 50 million, which is far above Barça’s reach in the current circumstances.

Barcelona are struggling to register Messi: another stumbling block

Barcelona also risks losing Lionel Messi this summer. The Argentine became a free agent at the end of last season. Although they have reportedly reached a five-year deal with the playmaker, they still cannot register it until they reduce their salary by selling some of their highest paid players.

Since the Catalan giant is still struggling to make ends meet regarding Leo’s status at the club, it is unlikely that they would place an additional burden on themselves in their search for Romero.

For any deal to be made, Blaugrana would have to generate revenue by selling a portion of its dry wood and significantly reducing its salaries. If Atalanta were also interested in some of Barcelona’s most sought-after stars, a replacement could then be feasible.
