The resort, located in Orlando, Florida, announced Friday that masks and facials for guests will be “optional in Disney World’s outdoor common areas” beginning Saturday. The exception is that guests “must wear facial coatings from the entrances of all attractions, theaters or transports and throughout these experiences,” the company said.

So that means if you walk down the main street, in the United States, you don’t have to wear any masks, but if you go to the space mountain, you have to.

The news comes after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dit on Thursday, people who are completely vaccinated against Covid-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors, except in certain circumstances.

Tight safety requirements could have huge ramifications for Disney’s presence and the theme park industry in general, as Disney parks are industry leaders. And as Disney goes, other amusement parks also tend to go.

Universal Orlando Resort, a Disney competitor in Orlando that hosts Harry Potter and Jurassic Park attractions, also announced Friday that it is updating its Covid security measures. Like Disney’s new requirements, it says masks aren’t “mandatory” outdoors, but are still “mandatory in all indoor locations, including shops and restaurants,” and are required at all attractions. .
Disney’s parks and resorts have been a major foundation of the company’s media empire for decades. However, the division was especially affected by the coronavirus pandemic. After a challenging year that led extended closures i major layoffs, new mask rules, as well as increased capacity, could have a significant impact on park attendance towards the vital summer season.

Disney generated more than $ 26 billion in sales in the parks division during fiscal 2019, the year before the pandemic, which accounted for 37 percent of the company’s global revenue. Returning to these levels would obviously be an advantage not only for the park unit, but for all of Disney.

“This is the next step in their recovery,” Robert Niles, editor of ThemeParkInsider.com, told CNN Business ahead of Friday’s announcement. “They’ve built a base in the parks to expand them. I don’t think you’ll really see the result of this expansion in 2021, but you will see the beginning.”

The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is the most visited theme park in the world, with more than 20 million visitors in 2018, according to a report by AECOM. The company has invested billions in its theme park division, opening new ones Lands of Star Wars in Florida and California in 2019. He also plans to debut Avengers Campus, a land based on the success of the Marvel franchise, at Disneyland this summer.
Disneyland, California’s iconic resort, reopened last month after being closed for more than a year.
Disney (DIS) he did not say if and when he would change the safety measures and orientation of the mask to his other parks.
