Google Slides makes it really easy to create professional slideshows, but presentation mode always has a lot to be desired. While the original toolbar of the presentation was on the screen, it covered the text and showed all the available controls at once. Today, Google announced that it has updated the Presenter Toolbar in Presentations to provide a streamlined design that reduces the space it takes up in the slideshow.
The new presenter bar hides most of the controls in the three-point overflow menu, giving users easy access to the most used options, such as the Previous and Next slide buttons along with a slide selector. Options for Open Presenter Notes, Autoplay, Caption Preferences, and Laser Pointer have all been moved to the overflow menu, significantly reducing the size of the toolbar. Additionally, Google has reduced the hover area that activates the presenter bar, which helps to ensure that the controls don’t obscure the slides.
Starting today, this update is available to both Google Workspace customers and personal accounts, and will be available to all users in the future.
