Xi’an, in northwest China, reported 175 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases on Monday, the highest number of daily infections in a Chinese city since March 2020.
Xi’an has now reported 810 cases of local transmission since its group began on December 9, one of the worst outbreaks in China since Wuhan became the epicenter of the 2019 pandemic.
Xi’an, home to 13 million people, entered a strict blockade on December 23, closing public places and transportation, except for essential services such as supermarkets and hospitals.

One case was found each in southeastern Zhejiang Province and southwestern Yunnan Province.
