Marinette diver finds man’s stolen items in Menominee River a year after robbery, locates owner

MARINETTE, Wis. (NBC 26) — If you’re looking for something under water, it may well be that one urinary spot will find it.

“Don’t go down the river, because Eddie loves to track it down,” Marinette resident Gary Edwards said. “I couldn’t believe it. I mean, after a year and a half, who’s waiting for someone to find something at the bottom of the river?”

In late 2019, Edwards was unemployed in Florida when his house was robbed. A year later, diver Marinetta discovered the stolen goods at the port of Menekaunee.

“We went to the bottom to find the box that was stolen,” Edwards said. “Who the heck did it? Well there’s a man over there, Eddie Bieber.”

Back in July Ed bieber offends newspaper clippings and hundreds of dollars in jewelry and property taxes near the Hattie Street Bridge.

Bieber posted a video on YouTube and her friend recognized her name in obituaries: ‘Edwards.’

“I saw two beams hanging down there with this case tied to a cushion,” said Bieber. “And as soon as I grasped it, I could feel two boxes there. … I swam to the beach, unloaded all my heavy arms, and lowered the camera and started to open the various boxes. And the metal boxes. Right away I noticed the obituary. And I was like, ‘Oh man! this is not good.

“I invited him” [Edwards] over, and immediately knew from the obituary and memorial papers,” Bieber said.

For Carrie Underwood, it’s just a hobby; a hobby that helped change someone’s life.

“I thought I had forgotten everything,” Edwards said. “He shared with me happily he is like a good person.”

“I brought her to the pawn shop and said “How much can you give me for this?” “This is worth $300, $600. I did what I could, and I think it would take a lot. But it feels good to be able to give back to the community.”

Bieber also started “Bieber Underwater Recovery” as a side job. It wants private businesses to accept requests from those that allocate lost assets, but it spends most of its time in Northeast Wisconsin’s water bodies in an effort to clear waste.
