Review of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Anastasia Gasanova
Playing in only her second main draw of the WTA tournament, Russian Anastasia Gasanova managed to find her way to the 16 finals of the St. Petersburg women’s trophy in 2021. Gasanova showed a lot of fighting spirit and perseverance in her marathon 6-2, 6-7 (6), 7-5 in the second round of the victory over Katarina Zavatska, which lasted 3 hours and 4 minutes.
The 21-year-old took to the stage for the first time, upsetting Karolina Pliskova in Abu Dhabi in early 2021. She seems to have brought momentum to her home tournament and hope to achieve a few more victories.
In the next round, the fifth seed is waiting Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, which in the opening match recorded a resounding victory in direct sets over Cagla Buyukakcay.
A former top-20 player, Pavlyuchenkova is a well-established name on the tour and has a lot of achievements to boast about. She won 12 WTA titles, most of which came on hard boards – the area where the most comfortable Russian is most comfortable.
Although she did not win the title from the Internationaux de Strasbourg in 2018, Pavlyuchenkova is still a regular player at the elite level.
Anastasia Gasanova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova head to head stats
This will be the first meeting in their career between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Anastasia Gasanova, so their current standoff is 0: 0.
Prediction Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova – Anastasia Gasanova
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has gotten into the habit of starting the season strongly in the last few years, but that was not the case in 2021. Pavlyuchenkova has found herself in difficult parts of the draw several times and the quarterfinals of this season have yet to come.
Still, the 29-year-old owns one of the best-rounded games on the tour. And with a relatively open field in St. Petersburg, she would really like the chances of picking up the title.
For Anastasia Gasanova, the key will be to find a way to neutralize the force of the opponent’s blow. The 21-year-old will have to attack from the start, as a passive approach is unlikely to score many points against Pavlyuchenkova.
Gasanova has a lot of matches under her belt this season, which may or may not be good. She returned to competition on the ITF track after her breakthrough in Abu Dhabi, but did not have the success she had hoped for.
The young man will have to put on an almost flawless show if he wants to repeat his heroism from Abu Dhabi. But after her exhausting second-round match, there is every chance that fatigue could creep in, which would make things difficult for Gasan.
Prediction: Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to win in straight sets.
