U.S. Republican Rep. Tom Reed, coming out to challenge New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, has been accused of sexual misconduct by a former insurance company lobbyist, the Washington Post reported Friday .

Nicolette Davis, who now serves in the U.S. military, told the newspaper that in 2017 it was inappropriate for Reed to put his hand on her on a “networking trip” to Minneapolis.

“A drunk congressman was nuzzling my back,” the newspaper quoted Davis as texting a former co-worker. “HELP HELP.”

“This account of my actions is inaccurate,” Reed said in a statement, declining to answer further questions.

Davis could not be reached for immediate comment.

Cuomo, who will run for re-election in November 2022, is under increasing pressure to resign following a series of allegations of sexual misconduct and that he hid the number of nursing deaths in the state. of New York associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Investigations into those allegations are ongoing.

Reed, 49, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 and earned a reputation of being a moderate Republican willing to work with Democrats on certain issues.

He was a member of the “Problem Solvers Caucus” that late last year had a role in creating an emergency relief package to address the pandemic.
