Io Shirai and Zoe Stark won. Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai, Shotzy Blackheart and Amber Moon
Six of NXT’s top superstars went out of their way in the high-octane Triple Threat Tag Match, including a thrilling episode in which multiple contestants took to the skies in a row.
NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez defended teammate Dakota Kai from Io Shirai’s first attempt, but the Celestial Genius later found himself isolated with Kai, and the second time was a charm for a moon storm and victory.
Shirai and Zoe Stark will challenge The Way for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles next week at NXT’s Great American Bash.
Roderick Strong def. Asher Hale
The diamond mine is open for business.
Backbreaker Messiah looked amazing in his first fight in three months – and in his very first match as a member of The Diamond Mine. Strong quickly cracked down on Asher Hale with a unique performance, much to the delight of Malcolm Bivens and company.
Cameron Grimes def. Ari Sterling
Ari Sterling showed the potential for serious frustration with his spectacular attack, but his missing Shooting Star Press left him vulnerable to a crash, and Cameron Grimes seized the opportunity.
The tech savage couldn’t celebrate for long until the LA Knight arrived at the Capitol Wrestling Center. Grimes expanded the million dollar championship rematch challenge – one knight accepted one condition: Grimes would have to serve as the knight’s butler if he lost again.
Kyle O’Reilly made Adam Cole tap his heel
After a hand-to-hand fight last week between Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole, NXT Special Forces Samoa Joe wisely arrived on stage this week when O’Reilly called out his former best friend. Cole claimed that not only is O’Reilly obsessed with him, but that Cole wore it for four years on NXT, while O’Reilly stated that he was ashamed to be involved with Cole.
Joe’s hopes of splitting them proved idyllic as O’Reilly took advantage of Cole’s erroneous swing and blocked the heel, forcing his arch-rival to knock a week before they collided at the Great American Bash NXT.
Xia Li and Boa def. Mercedes Martinez and Jake Atlas in a mixed match
Mercedes Martinez made a costly mistake when she stepped out of the ring to challenge the formidable Mei Yin, but Xia Li managed to capitalize and take control of the match. Lee hit Martinez with a crushing spin-head heel kick, forcing the referee to stop play.
MSK met face to face with Tommaso Champa and Timothy Thatcher
Although they share respect, MSK and Tommaso Champa and Timothy Thatcher had enough tension to be cut with a knife. Nash Carter seized the chance to hit Champa first, but Champa was cornered by Thatcher and The Blackheart called him “free” and told MSK they would have no luck in their NXT title match next week.
Johnny Gargano attacked Carrion Cross all night
The problem between NXT champion Carrion Cross and Johnny Gargano seems far from resolved. First, Gargano and Austin Theori ambushed the Doomsday Destroyer, prompting Cross to later summon Johnny Wrestling. Gargano effectively lured Cross in while Theory attacked him from behind, although Cross eventually got the upper hand and attempted to destroy Gargano with steel steps before he was attacked by security – only to be leveled by super dupe Gargano.
Once again, Gargano and Theory attacked Cross, this time in the parking lot as Cross got into his car to drive away. When Cross appeared to fall and flew after being repeatedly smashed by the door of his own car, Cross reappeared to defeat Gargano with Cross’s jacket.
Having done the unthinkable act, Cross seemed determined to run into Gargano, only for Samoa Joe, to get Gargano out of danger at the very last moment.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott def. Bronson Reed becomes the new NXT North American champion
After talking about this to the NXT universe for several weeks, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott proved to the world that he really is not.
Although Bronson Reed controlled most of the fight, Scott refused to stand aside and it paid off in the end. Left out of the ring for most of the fight, Hit Row made itself felt by targeting The Colossal Superstar. Reed was ready to send Top Dolla through the ring plexiglass in a shocking fashion before tossing Ashante “You” Adonis over the barricade.
But the time outside allowed Swerve to recover, and he hooked up to House Call on Reed when he tried to re-enter the ring. After a staggering 450 spike, Scott did the cover to win his first WWE championship gold.
