Despite Gonzalez’s overwhelmingly impressive past year since entering the NXT scene, the daring Shirai showed the heart of a true champion when she challenged Big Mami Cool in a TakeOver main event match. Although Shirai soared above the best that the square circle had to offer in Stand & Deliver, Gonzalez was destined to ground her.
At first, Gonzalez’s strength seemed somewhat neutralized by the pure sporting prowess and speed of the title holder. But moments after her cohort Dakota Kai was thrown out of the ring, Gonzalez took over, displaying a dominant brutal strength.
The Sky Genius roared at a fast pace, powerfully attacking, and soon closed the crossface, nearly forcing his opponent to knock before Gonzalez could get to the ropes.
Seconds later, Shirai recovered from the lunar assault from the top rope onto the unforgiving steel ramp, opening the door for action to disperse into the arena. Before the WWE Universe could even catch her breath, the title holder climbed to new heights and jumped from the top of the 20ft NXT Stand & Deliver Skull onto her opponent standing on a steel grid below.
However, when she brought Shirai back into the ring, Gonzalez became the first person to ever fly out of the titleholder’s moon assault.
Gonzalez then regained the advantage outside the ring and threw Shirai into the ring. After leveling the titleholder with a crushing lariat in the square of the circle, Gonzalez hit the stunning Chingona Bomb to finally claim the NXT Women’s Championship.
